I started these a couple of months ago and have just finished the pink one. They are Christmas presents for my niece and nephew who will be 3 and 1 next year. <br />
<br />
The pattern is the Jake Hoodie by Martin Storey in Rowan's Milk Cotton Baby book. I had a lot of odd balls of the Milk cotton so this was a great pattern to use it effectively. <br />
<br />
Knit on 3.75mm needles, this pattern could be done in any DK yarn. <br />
<br />
Instead of knitting the sides and back separately I cast them all on at the same time and divided at the arm holes leaving the remaining stitches on holders. This saved time in sewing up!<br />
<br />
Really looking forward to seeing them in these at Christmas, they are going to look super cute.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-68611979195837916672012-07-29T08:11:00.000-07:002012-07-29T08:11:33.328-07:00Vintage Owl Cushion Pattern Re-Mixed<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are baby, mummy and daddy owl. Knit from a vintage pattern unearthed by my mother. Knit in Amy Butler Belle Organic Aran yarn, a 50% organic wool and 50% organic cotton blend. I used shell buttons from John Lewis for the eyes and a square of grey felt to make the beaks. Stuffed with washable toy stuffing.<br />
<br />
These are a gift for my niece Annabell for her 2nd birthday, I got baby and mummy done before her birthday but have only just finished daddy (hence two pictures). <br />
<br />
I am very please with them, they are a bit bigger than I had expected but the pattern does describe them as cushions not toys. I will be tempted to knit baby again if someone wants a little toy. I've been super organized and started to make Christmas presents! This is for my nephew Thomas. He will be 9 months old in December but I have done the 12-18 month size because he is a little chunkster. The pattern is 'Jake Hoodie' from the Rowan Milk Cotton Baby book. Knit in Rowan Milk Cotton. <br />
<br />
I bought a couple of packs of the green and white when they went in the sale with the intention of knitting a blanket. That never happened so I am going to use it to do a selection of baby things for friends and family. Other colour stripes are colours left over from other projects in the same yarn, I knew they would come in one day. Hoarding yarn pays off!<br />
<br />
I am going to do his big sister the same pattern but in different colours.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-20846068564397411022012-06-06T03:28:00.000-07:002012-06-06T03:28:46.936-07:00Name Badge in 2ply<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As I am now helping to run <a href="http://www.thekingsarmsknitters.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Kings Arms Knitters</a> which entails teaching/helping new people with their knitting, we thought it might be a good idea to have name badges. Normal name badges would not do, so I made a pattern for a knitted one!<br />
<br />
I used some 2ply/cobweb yarn that was a gift brought back from Peru. It was knit on old size 17 needles which is 1.5mm. There is an intarsia knitting needle at the top and bottom with my name in the middle. The badge is a bit long, but it had to be to fit 7 letters on it. The badge is 5cm x 15cm. I used a piece of funky foam to stiffen it then backed it in bright blue felt and sew a large safety pin to the back. This is a triangular shawl pattern called Ginkgo from <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/" target="_blank">Ravelry</a>. Its a free pattern knit in 4ply on 4mm needles. I used Jawoll Magic sock wool hence the stripes. The main body of the shawl is in stocking stitch with a lace border. This makes it quite a quick knit up to the lace so you really feel like you are progressing with it. I am already considering knitting this again but in a solid colour, because even though I love the wool I have done it in, it would be nice to show the lace pattern off a bit more. <br /><br />Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-11807417802019377802012-05-19T04:46:00.001-07:002012-05-19T04:46:31.004-07:00Cora Scarf in Rowan Colourscape<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is a FREE pattern available from <a href="http://www.knitrowan.com/">Knit Rowan </a>. Colourscape is a beautiful 100% lambs wool yarn with a self striping colour palette designed by Kaffe Fassett. The pattern takes 2 balls and is done on 7mm needles. <br />

This shawl is a free pattern on Ravelry called Pimpelliese. It is knit from point to point and is really simple! The pattern is done in 'fingering' weight yarn (4ply) but I had this hand painted cotton in DK after I pulled back a previous shawl I had made up myself and fallen out with. Just divide your yarn in 2 and increase until half is used then decrease using the other half. Done! This took me 10 days to knit in my spare time after work.<br />
<br />
Here is the pattern : www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pimpellieseRichmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-82846567353606073502012-04-22T03:08:00.001-07:002012-04-22T03:08:04.667-07:00Bunting for baby Thomas<div><p>I have a new nephew!  As I did knitted bunting for my niece when she was born I wanted to do the same for him. Changed it up a but and did a fabric bunting instead, mainly due to time constraints and the fact my sewing machine was out! </p>
<p>To do the letters I printed out the text at the right size and using a rotary cutter and scalpel cut out the letters.  Using a very tight zig zag stitch I went around the edges of the letters on one side of the bunting flags. Then with a straight stitch sewed the flags rightside facing then turned rightway out. Then I over sewed the tops to close the flags and attach the ribbon. </p>
<p>All fabric bought from Abakans in Manchester. </p>

This velvet patchwork is made from the hanging sample of Designers Guild velvets that was being thrown away to make way for a new one. There was a 1sqm piece of the pink velvet and over 30 15cm squares of all the other shades. <br /><br />I originally organised the squares in shade order and it looked a bit dull. So colours are sort of grouped together but shaken up. <br /><br />The large pink piece became the borders and it is backed in fleece that I bought from Abakans in Manchester. <br /><br />Did this on the sewing machine and finished it off by hand when turned inside out.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-69237184059921517002012-03-15T13:35:00.003-07:002012-03-15T13:46:39.694-07:00New Baby Jacket and Jumper<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWkSB5gIC8Xi4Zw4lmxQ0nkx5dfZRokeWOyjkYHuoREYInOcdgxvI-ipB0fO7UthQ36Nwxe7XpI6LbN2BqA6lNBYAGCB4QD9_3enoWlVxzMaT2oFahZDnwUwR3I0LxzalNru3iiaiqSI6b/s1600/CIMG4486.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWkSB5gIC8Xi4Zw4lmxQ0nkx5dfZRokeWOyjkYHuoREYInOcdgxvI-ipB0fO7UthQ36Nwxe7XpI6LbN2BqA6lNBYAGCB4QD9_3enoWlVxzMaT2oFahZDnwUwR3I0LxzalNru3iiaiqSI6b/s400/CIMG4486.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5720226016742300898" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKCE3CJf3WMvS7vgX-MYIQqVhnhnVNkHg4uH3L9pOy2yVE7VwL0TuummNIJ-dlrCrwf6Y6SnaCxFSSEXJRtW12mHvjKTWxQWkd8znB7auoX_aC4ppee_2x7GmlTQ1yn487FkMW9kYaX-vS/s1600/CIMG4487.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKCE3CJf3WMvS7vgX-MYIQqVhnhnVNkHg4uH3L9pOy2yVE7VwL0TuummNIJ-dlrCrwf6Y6SnaCxFSSEXJRtW12mHvjKTWxQWkd8znB7auoX_aC4ppee_2x7GmlTQ1yn487FkMW9kYaX-vS/s400/CIMG4487.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5720226030140366898" border="0" /></a>Two things for a new baby. The squares are adapted from an old Martin Storey pattern, you cast on for the 4 outer edges of the square then decrease at the 4 diagonals into the centre then seam the last diagonal back to the outer edge. Now in All Seasons, an aran weight yarn done on 4.5mm needles. I have backed this blanket with a slightly quilted cotton fabric and used buttons to tie the two sides together. Its like a little duvet! Should be an awesome pram blanket for the new baby it is going to.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-21728341067446054982011-11-27T10:06:00.001-08:002011-11-27T15:03:14.352-08:00Adventures in Quilting<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh9OgIzHsBGIYGZK99XQ3HIifhwdeQz4gmiL8uccObc9Fn5leL8QYbP5_F5FM6prBYwORnzERMsrB2o53VAYKCcnL_e2R54TSMo2oCYylpCzcms0THVdchLdbV7d7ZXos79hE5u4DpZSLi/s1600/CIMG4314.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh9OgIzHsBGIYGZK99XQ3HIifhwdeQz4gmiL8uccObc9Fn5leL8QYbP5_F5FM6prBYwORnzERMsrB2o53VAYKCcnL_e2R54TSMo2oCYylpCzcms0THVdchLdbV7d7ZXos79hE5u4DpZSLi/s400/CIMG4314.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679814238162441298" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgridEGmPeTR7FQgSiihlkNRbHhElUjhH2rurfNxB9NQuZ6IGoMOJ2q1zHJJwWLna0quKpLhFIfbBN7nwZpBqDvDoluQG5aZtYaiH-D-B6KheVSv9xG_fb_IVEA6XjtA7P3UG6diKiMEZZR/s1600/CIMG4315.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgridEGmPeTR7FQgSiihlkNRbHhElUjhH2rurfNxB9NQuZ6IGoMOJ2q1zHJJwWLna0quKpLhFIfbBN7nwZpBqDvDoluQG5aZtYaiH-D-B6KheVSv9xG_fb_IVEA6XjtA7P3UG6diKiMEZZR/s400/CIMG4315.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679742536617081970" border="0" /></a><br />Having done patchwork before I thought it was about time I leaped into the world of quilting. Finished photo to follow!Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-53781217780750521432011-07-12T04:16:00.000-07:002011-07-12T04:29:03.416-07:00Cushion for Annabelle<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bJRWpk6cJlxqgHt8DvI60Z0QwIjsMEWITWbL3NEW45CNQyurz7euMpxCA2HsWDzD66oUuxfy8UjauQi5qB1BD_w6qNw-px34iXXMD7iDJkNbQnWSC4pQvjKYZKbJ1sd7jCv5A-0NEO4C/s1600/CIMG3799.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bJRWpk6cJlxqgHt8DvI60Z0QwIjsMEWITWbL3NEW45CNQyurz7euMpxCA2HsWDzD66oUuxfy8UjauQi5qB1BD_w6qNw-px34iXXMD7iDJkNbQnWSC4pQvjKYZKbJ1sd7jCv5A-0NEO4C/s400/CIMG3799.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628424540982764770" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQyQery2IRdoVVz1ZS6AjD3mpsQdwNNVbtpwzpafJCJ6pV3OedYHhkxyYQzE3i7sVYbAp0sIVP_hnsyG6GxA_dghiKLMX2QnV0spNkClok7xNVNAqn1mBwaeiTJdAdUNl14CFKBuflFuZi/s1600/CIMG3797.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQyQery2IRdoVVz1ZS6AjD3mpsQdwNNVbtpwzpafJCJ6pV3OedYHhkxyYQzE3i7sVYbAp0sIVP_hnsyG6GxA_dghiKLMX2QnV0spNkClok7xNVNAqn1mBwaeiTJdAdUNl14CFKBuflFuZi/s400/CIMG3797.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628424545417046498" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikcEEOd6hTa2L7ixaHthxfuoaZu_SB4m_BelJmecYP00fMgOjr2K8g7V-P0_axKtxP-bFr5j-6hT1jmagNFustc4gh-UyjunDbGTi4llF1-Hjfs1MJtCnQqcPxXj2nGn5lYZOjALc_ykqO/s1600/CIMG3943.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikcEEOd6hTa2L7ixaHthxfuoaZu_SB4m_BelJmecYP00fMgOjr2K8g7V-P0_axKtxP-bFr5j-6hT1jmagNFustc4gh-UyjunDbGTi4llF1-Hjfs1MJtCnQqcPxXj2nGn5lYZOjALc_ykqO/s400/CIMG3943.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628424548839489314" border="0" /></a>Annabelle is 1!<br /><br />Very keen to provide lovely things for my niece I made an appliqué cushion with her name and things beginning with 'A' on it. I traced the letters onto the fabric and glued the face pieces down with PVA. I then snipped v shapes around the curves and wrapped round the sides. I then made a sort of bias binding to fit round the edges, and glued with PVA again. I am going to use them as display items in the workshops I run at work.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146878578412473938.post-70632074153752039332011-05-08T06:31:00.000-07:002011-05-14T07:54:23.386-07:00Knitted Elephant<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7ey8715iREr6iv0m_QgqDM23Ks2Whg2T5MUIJyquR1J3_DXYnVuTob5_zDuOZiXs6XIVHz02bK97M6nT_Mjxjwqumlzw4laFXtNotSGhYSBOqrylujw-rbSd0_MmFFWweSzbW8-vlk8G/s1600/CIMG3742.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7ey8715iREr6iv0m_QgqDM23Ks2Whg2T5MUIJyquR1J3_DXYnVuTob5_zDuOZiXs6XIVHz02bK97M6nT_Mjxjwqumlzw4laFXtNotSGhYSBOqrylujw-rbSd0_MmFFWweSzbW8-vlk8G/s320/CIMG3742.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604339251569045810" border="0" /></a>Here is 'Flo' from Knitty.com. Very quick to knit in Big Wool, with an interesting nipped in pattern. By wrapping the wool round the needle 10 times for each stitch and then dropping all the extra loops on the return row you create these really long dropped stitches. Had to invest in a KnitPro 1m long circular needle to get all the stitches on at the sleeves. The jumper is worked from hem to hem, casting off and then casting on for the neck opening. I am pretty pleased with the result, though I have tacked a length of black ribbon to the shoulder seam to keep the arms from drooping.Richmalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14437002628042180784noreply@blogger.com0
